NON-DEGRADABLE WASTE FETCHED 90 Lakhs – COMMISSIONER
The initiative by the Trichy city corporation to separate the degradable and non-degradable waste and handover to the workers has gained momentum. The non-degradable waste collected by the workers coming to the door step on every Wednesdays was initially 10 tonnes per week, which is now 190 tonnes. The separation of non-degradable waste at source has become a routine and practice which has fetched the corporation nearly Rs. 90 Lakhs from June 2017. This amount gained by recycling has not been used by the corporation but has been disbursed to the workers from Rs. 150 to Rs. 500 as per their volume of work. The collection and segregation work is carried out by self help group and sanitary workers. Trichy corporation has received a certificate of appreciation on waste management, along with coimbatore and Madurai corporations.
