The long-pending demand of the commuters of western and central districts are happy with the introduction of a direct train facility between Salem and Trichy on a trial basis for three months. The new train facility will be introduced by extending the train Nos. 76833 / 76834 Trichy– Karur – Trichy passengers to Salem via Namakkal from February 5.
The trains will be operated for six days a week except Sundays. Train No. 76833 (existing) Trichy – Karur passenger will depart from Trichy at 9.35 a.m. and reach Karur at 11.35 a.m. Train No. 06833 (new) Karur – Salem special passenger will depart from Karur at 11.40 a.m. and arrive at Salem at 1.20 p.m. In the return direction, train No. 06834 (new) Salem – Karur passenger will depart from Salem Junction at 1.30 p.m. and reach Karur at 3.20 p.m. Train No. 76834 (existing) Karur – Trichy passenger will depart from Karur at 3.30 p.m. and reach Trichy at 5.35 p.m.
The Southern Railway operated a similar direct train in the Salem – Trichy section for a week during the Pongal festival season which had good response from the Rail passengers’ associations and commuters of Salem and Namakkal districts who urged the Railways to convert this facility as a permanently. Now on introduction of this train has good rapport from the commuters, especially the senior citizens, women and the disabled.
