Actor SRIDEVI passed away- Cinema Industry Mourns

Veteran Bollywood actor and Padma Shri awardee Sridevi, 54 who had an illustrious career spanning over four decades, passed away.
Sridevi, died late (Feb 24) in the night reportedly due to cardiac arrest in Dubai, where she had gone along with her family to attend her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding. While some of her family members returned from Dubai after the wedding, Sridevi, Boney kapoor and her younger daughter Khushi stayed back. Her elder daughter Janhvi did not accompany the family due to her shooting schedule. Sridevi was step-mother to actor Arjun Kapoor and his sister Anshula, who Boney had from late first wife Mona. Condolences started pouring in on social media as the news of the actor’s death spread.

A versatile actor, Sridevi made her debut as a child actor in Thunaivan (Tamil) in 1969. Her first leading role as an adult came in 1976 with two of India’s biggest actors — Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth — in the K. Balachander film Moondru Mudichu. She followed that up GayathriKavikkuyil and 16 Vayathinilie.

Sridevi, (Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan) was born in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu to Tamil Father Ayyappan and Telegu mother Rajeshwari in 13, August, 1963. In 1996, Sridevi married Boney Kapoor, a film producer who is also the elder brother of actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor. In 1981, she starred in the Tamil film Meendum Kokila which won her the Film fare award for Best Actress – Tamil. In 1982, Sridevi starred in Moondram Pirai playing a woman suffering from Amnesia and went on to win the Tamil Nadu state Film award for Best actress. Sridevi made her debut as a heroine in Hindi films in Solva Sawan in 1979. Four years later she was signed to star opposite Jeetandra in Himmatwala. The film released in 1983 and became one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. Sridevi was widely regarded by media as one of the most iconic leading ladies of Bollywood and one of the most popular members of Hindi Cinema. She was regarded as the first female “superstar” of Bollywood films. In the 1990s, Sridevi was one of the highest earning actresses of Bollywood.
