MTC bus driver suffered a massive heart attack and died while on duty. The government bus driver, Sunderraj aged 52, attached with Avadi bus depot, driving the town bus fully packed with passengers towards Red Hills, Chennai, reported of uneasiness and nausea to the conductor, but continued to drive.
Little later, his discomfort increased, and managed to parked the bus by the road side, immediately fainted and fell on the steering wheel. The passengers immediately informed 108, but declared dead. The Avadi police have registered a case.
The MTC officials said that an immediate compensation of Rs. 1.5 lakh would be provided to his family from the employees’ welfare fund besides terminal benefits including provident fund and pension. Though the demise of the driver was a sad one, the passengers were saved by his timely effort to park the bus by the roadside before he collapsed.
