A team of Health Department by the direction of the district collector held a raid for quacks and found a quack treating patients at a hospital at Thuvarankurichi, and handed over to the police after an inspection.
The team led by S.Samsath Begum, Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services, during an inspection at the DC Hospital in Thuvarankurichi, found that a person by name Chinnathambi, who claimed to have studied BEMS, was treating patients. He even checked the blood pressure of Ms.Begum as she initially posed as a patient.
Chinnathambi had told the inspection team that he and another person by name Babu were the doctors at the hospital and he was currently the “duty doctor” as Babu has gone for higher studies.
The team found and proved that Chinnathambi had been prescribing Allopathic treatment to patients. It was found that three persons serving as nurses and a lab technician at the hospital have not studied in approved institutions. After obtaining statements from him and other employees at the hospital, the team preferred a complaint and handed over Chinnathambi to the police
