A total of 115 passengers were stranded at the Trichy International Airport for more than 20 hours after a Singapore-bound Air India Express (AIE) developed a technical snag on Sunday evening.

According to airport authorities, flight AXB 682 which arrived from Singapore at 3pm at Trichy, was supposed to depart at 4.10pm. The flight was preparing to move towards the runway after the passengers had boarded when the pilot noticed the snag with the air-conditioned system. Subsequently, the flight was grounded after informing the terminal as well as the air traffic control (ATC) tower.

A technical team from the airlines attempted to rectify the problem but they failed in their attempt, sources said.

Following that, all the passengers were made to alight and asked to wait at the airport. As the process to rectify the snag took more time, they were taken to a nearby hotel where they were accommodated.

Meanwhile, the Boeing B737-800 aircraft took off from the Trichy airport to Chennai on Sunday night, while authorities made alternative arrangements to send the passengers to Singapore.

During the course of time, some of the passengers cancelled their trip while the others were accommodated in the flight that departed on Monday evening.
