Bharathidasan University (BDU) has launched a mobile application that will provide faculty and students access to essential university information and services.

Stating that the app (mobile and web compatible) unifies the existing information and communication technology (ICT) resources and its features into a comprehensive, one-stop solution for education and skill development, university administrators claimed that with it students can stay connected with their departments even after graduation.

ICT enabled education though this app will be student centric and bring down issues in connecting with students, said the administrators. The app enables digital education by providing access to university course materials.

The app has been designed providing separate access for students, staff, administrators and alumni.

Teachers can share e-documents, e-books and even hand-written notes to students by protecting the content through digital rights management so that they are not misused.

The project is an initiative of the university towards implementing the learning management system for flipped classroom pedagogy required under NAAC re-accreditation process, which is in progress.

“This mobile app can be directly used for ‘flipped learning’ where the content is delivered in digital form to students outside the classroom apart from the conventional lectures,” said vice-chancellor P Manisankar.

“Using the app, teachers can carry out instant online tests for students. While the mobile app can help students take up online skill-based courses, this would also help the university communicate with students on general announcements which has been challenging so far,” said S Parthasarathy, director of the university informatics centre.

Another positive aspect of the mobile application is enabling students to get in touch with industries which would eventually help them grab summer internship based on their interest. “After graduation, they can remain connected to their departments as alumni through app,” he said.

The ‘BDU – Mobile & Web App’ can be downloaded by clicking the ‘Mobile & Web App’ link from for Android enabled mobile phones and all other web-enabled devices. It is also available on the Google Play store.
