Children sign in the signature campaign for Child protection
SEVAI-Railway Children India organized Children’s day in Trichy Railway Junction with the collaboration of Southern Railways, Trichirapalli on 14th Nov.2018. A signature campaign for care and protection children had also been organized as awareness on the occasion of Children’s day. A Rally had also been conducted in Trichy Railway Junction demonstrating with placards and making slogans with children day focus on f Children rights such as Right to Survival to life, Right to Development having access to education, care, leisure, recreation, cultural activities, Right to Protection from exploitation, abuse, neglect and Right to Participation to expression. Hundreds of students, Railway employees, SEVAI-RCI staff functionaries and volunteers and stake holders took part in the rally. The Senior Station Manager of Trichy Railway Junction activated the signature campaign and Ms.Suda, Associated Director of SEVAI flagged off the Children’s’ day rally. The Project Coordinator of SEVAI-RCI –Project thanked DCM, SMR and other officials of Trichy Railway Junction for according permission for the conduct of children’s day in Trichy Railway Junction jurisdiction and for their support and guidance. Ms.Suda, Associated Director of SEVAI said that Child care and protection is necessary and several the kids those face violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect are at risk of death, poor physical and mental health, HIV/AIDS infection, educational problems, displacement, homelessness and several other concerns. A large number of run-aways, unaccompanied and trafficked children travel to different parts of the country. The Railways carry significantly large proportion of such children and many use railway premises for shelter and livelihood. So far in 2018, over 650 children have been rescued by SEVAI-RCI CCRS Project in Trichy. These children are highly vulnerable to all forms of abuse, violence, neglect and exploitation. With the aim to prevent the plight of such children, who lose their way and get separated from their parents in Railway stations SEVAI-RCI assists Railway officials, Railway Protection Force and General Police serving in Railways in Trichy Railway Junction to prevent trafficking of children and take appropriate action to rehabilitate destitute children found in Railway areas and hand them over to the safe and secure

hands of their parents, rough Child Welfare Committees established by Law and follow it up for reuniting these children with the parents as per the interest of the child. This CCRS Project is being implemented by SEVAI-RCI as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Railways to ensure care and protection of children in contact with Railways jointly developed by Ministry of Railways, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and Ministry of Women and Child Development. The Associate Director of SEVAI also thanked Railway children India, SEVAI-RCI Staff members, Railway Authorities and stake holders and public and students those participated in Rally and children and their parents those participated in signature campaign and other associated children’s day celebrations. Children’s day was also organized in SEVAI-RCI Open shelter situated near Central bus stand Trichy.-Kris.
