Trichy: Tension prevailed at Manapparai in Trichy district on Friday morning after the government hospital there received a warning that a bomb has been planted within the building premises. It was eventually confirmed to be a hoax call.
According to the Manapparai police, the GH received a call to its landline around 8.45am from an unidentified person. The person claimed that a bomb has been implanted within the premises and cut the call without revealing anything further. Once the news spread among the patients in the hospital, panic gripped and a few started rushing outside the hospital.
The police were notified and a team including six personnel from Trichy bomb detection and disposal squad with the help of sniffer dogs conducted a thorough search in the hospital. The search went on for a few hours. The police confirmed that the call was a hoax. They filed a case regarding the incident and conducted an investigation. The police said they were trying to trace the call to identify the person who gave a fake warning.
