Trichy: The Trichy railway division has decided to establish 157 additional ATMs of nationalised, scheduled and commercial banks on railway properties such as railway stations, offices, training institutes and colonies. The respective divisional railway authorities have been empowered to select appropriate places in 65 locations across the division to establish the ATMs.
The railway department is expected to invite tenders from the banks by the end of the week, official sources from the railway division said. Currently, 22 ATMs are functioning from 11 locations in the Trichy division. The authorities are planning to increase the number of ATMs in such a way that will facilitate more number of commuters. According to the officials, 27 additional ATMs have been proposed in six locations in Trichy section – seven would be established in and around Trichy junction, five each in Srirangam and Ponmalai and two in Lalgudi. Thanjavur will get 33 more ATMs including Kumbakonam (5), Thanjavur station (5) and one each at 12 other stations in the section, officials stated.
Proposals have been invited for installation of ATMs at all the selected station. The banks willing to install such facilities have been requested to coordinate with the concerned railway authorities of the respective stations. In case of locations such as workshop and training centre, the officials from banks can approach the divisional level officials to proceed, officials stated.
