‘Process of depositing the amount directly to bank accounts in progress’
About ₹123 crore has been disbursed as compensation to cyclone-affected people in Thanjavur district so far, according to Collector A. Annadurai.
About 1.16 lakh houses were damaged in the district and nearly ₹63 crore has been disbursed to the affected families.
Further, ₹40.22 crore has been disbursed as livelihood assistance to 80,466 families, who were accommodated at relief centres, and fishermen families with damaged boats. Families of 15 persons, who died in cyclone-related incidents, have been given over ₹10 lakh each.
Mr. Annadurai, who inspected damaged coconut groves in Keezhakurichi West panchayat in Pattukottai taluk on Sunday, said the district administration received ₹165 crore as initial allotment for payment of compensation to farmers for crop damage. So far, ₹33 lakhs had been disbursed to 237 affected farmers.
Besides, ₹1.14 crore was allotted for payment of compensation to farmers whose cattle had perished in the cyclone. About ₹17.08 crore had been released as compensation to 3,847 fisherfolk whose boats or nets were damaged
The process of depositing the compensation directly to bank accounts of affected persons was in progress, he said.
The Collector also disclosed that relief packs containing 27 essential items had been distributed to over 32,500 families in the district so far.
