The postal department in Trichy region has introduced a net banking facility for its savings bank account holders and asked them to submit an application at the office to to avail of the facility.
The department of posts launched an intra-operable internet banking facility for its savings bank account holders as part of India Post IT Modernization Project. Post office savings bank (POSB) is India’s largest small savings network with 18.62 crore savings account and this latest facility will benefit its huge customer base.
The literate customers who have savings account in head or sub post offices can avail of this facility by submitting an application form to the home branch. PAN number, mobile number and email id are mandatory for availing of the facility.
After submitting the form at home branch, the customer will get SMS on their registered mobile number within 24 hours and on receipt of the same, the customers can activate the internet banking through the URL https://ebanking.indiapost.gov.in, the Postmaster General of Central Region, Ambesh Upmanyu said.
With this latest facility, the account holders of POSB can now transfer money to any core banking migrated POSB accounts in India immediately through online. Customers can open new recurring deposit and time deposit (TD) accounts including 5 year TD, a tax saving instrument, and pay for PPF or RD instalments through online with this e-banking facility, he added.
Even though the internet banking facility is intra-operable, that is transaction within POSB accounts only, customers can do transactions with other bank accounts using NEFT or IMPS or UPI via India post payments bank (IPPB) channel. Customers are requested to open IPPB account/link their existing IPPB account to their POSB account to avail of the facility with other banks.
