TRICHY: Trichy railway division has commenced redevelopment works to provide various amenities and service to the passengers at the station. The redeveloped station will have improved building facade, new entry-exit road, new arches at all built at an estimation of Rs 23 crore.
The work on new platform 8 has been taken up at the cost of Rs 7 crore, officials said. This initiative comes in the wake of Trichy junction figuring among selected A1 and A category stations in Southern Railways for the ministry of railway’s countrywide redevelopment programme.
As per the plan, works on providing various amenities and service to the passengers have been commenced in Trichy railway junction. The construction wing authorities in Trichy railway division have carried out the works such as improvement of the facade of the station building and circulating area which includes well-regulated lanes for pickup and drop off as well as better parking facilities for vehicles.
Presently, the construction of a new arch in front of the main entrance of the railway junction has gathered a pace. Construction of two new RCC portico work has begun.
Widening of the existing additional entry and exit road leading towards parcel office is under progress. As the railway authorities have planned to allow buses along the stretch, the existing entry road will be widened up to 7.5 metres and the exit road into 10 metres along with a pedestrian path on both sides.
A roundabout will be constructed to facilitate the vehicles to take a turn, officials said. Two bus shelters would come along the exit road. This stretch will lead the passengers towards the newly constructed Foot over bridge.
Besides, walkways, holding areas for passengers, LED lighting to brighten up all areas, systematic collection and disposal of garbage and reconstruction of ticket booking area are also on the list, they said.
