Trichy: Fire mock drills were conducted as part of the national fire and evacuation drill day at Sri Sivananda Balalaya (SSB) school at Adavathur on Monday.
With school laboratories becoming more prone to fire accidents, students and teachers were educated on how to respond to fire emergencies with ease.
Correspondent of the school, major general (retired) N R K Babu said the drill was performed in the presence of district fire officer and the station officer to create awareness among the students about firefighting techniques and the ways to respond swiftly in times of such emergency situations.”
A fire alarm team, evacuation team, rescue team, firefighters team, first aid team, transportation team and media team were formed to prepare students, teachers for such eventuality under the risk reduction programme.
The evacuation operation began moment after the fire alarm alerted the students. Students were immediately evacuated from their classrooms and asked to gather at the assembly area.
“It was organised to check the readiness of the school to face any such fire emergency and make the students and staff be aware of the fire-fighting rescue operation,” said principal of SSB, K Bhanumathi.
The fire-fighters armed with the necessary equipment required for fire-fighting and rescue operators assisted the teachers and students in the mock fire and evacuation drill.
An ambulance was also stationed at the spot with the required facilities to teach them how to pull out victims in such a fire mishap. They were taught various rescue methods to evacuate themselves.
