Trichy: The city corporation has started renovation works at three major public parks in Rockfort under the smart city mission, at an outlay of Rs 3 crore. Preliminary work on compound walls, toilets and walking tracks have commenced at the public parks.
Recommended By Colombia Iconic parks such as Lourdusamy Pillai park on East Boulevard road in ward 10 and Ramasamy park on Babu road in ward 11 are among the parks where the work is progressing. Work on installing walking tracks at Lourdusamy Pillai park commenced last week while civil works to raise compound wall at Ramasamy park and to level the surface were taken up.
“Encroachments near the public parks such as in Lourdusamy park should be removed. Maintenance is as equally important as redevelopment,” said S Rajmohan, a resident of Andar street. Apart from poor maintenance, encroachments were cited as one of the reasons for the public parks to lose their sheen.
Besides establishing walking tracks and stone benches, Trichy Corporation said that modern play zone for kids, fountains with decorative lights and maze themed gardens will come at the parks identified for redevelopment.
“Work such as levelling the surface, raising compound walls and establishing walking tracks have begun in three parks including the one at Moovendhar Nagar. The redeveloped parks shall be opened again to the public in the next three to six months,” an official with the Trichy Corporation said.
