TRICHY: In order to cut power consumption in an eco-friendly manner, the Trichy railway division has successfully commissioned 640 kWp (kilowatt peak) off-grid solar systems at 12 level crossings.
Rooftop solar generating systems were also established at the Trichy Junction railway station and at the office of the divisional railway manager with the capacity of 325 kWp.
The entire division has been converted into LED lights from bulbs and tubes, officials said. Officials from the electrical department commissioned the 640 kWp off-grid solar system at 12 level crossings between Kumbakonam – Chidambaram and Thanjavur – Nidamangalam sections. With this, the division has 26 level crossings operating with solar systems.
Similarly, 100 kWp “on grid” solar generating system each between platforms 4 and 5, and between 6 and 7 and a 125 kWp rooftop “on grid” solar generating system in the divisional office rooftop has been provided. The new facilities would help not only generate electrical power but also create additional savings in terms of revenue, a senior official from the division said.
