TRICHY: The Construction Workers’ Union of All Indian Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has announced a state-wide demonstration across all district headquarters on March 4 seeking revised monetary benefits for workers.
The workers will be urging the state government to utilise the Rs 2,600 crore funds available in the reserve of Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board during the demonstration. The decision was taken during the consultative meeting of the Trichy district committee of AITUC construction workers’ union chaired by K Ravi, general secretary at Woraiyur on Monday.
A resolution demanding revised compensation for accidental deaths and natural deaths of construction workers was passed “As much as Rs 2,600 crore fund is idle with the construction workers’ welfare board.
They are either underutilised or used for irrelevant purposes. Government utilising the fund should increase the monetary benefits of construction workers,” president of Trichy district committee of AITUC construction workers’ unions, K Suresh said.
