UGC sponsored a two day National Conference on Redefining Professional Social Work Education And Practice In The Present Scenario: A Multi-Disciplinary Perspective was conducted by the Department of Social Work, Bishop Heber College.
The main objective of this Conference is restructuring the social work education and practice methodology according to the present issues prevailing in the society. The Inaugural function was started at 09:30 am the Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr.Sonny Jose, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Social Work, Loyola College of Social Science, Trivandram and the Guest of Honor of the occasion was Dr. P. Ilango, Professor of Social Work, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Syndicate Member, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli and Dr. D. Paul Dhayabaran, Principal, Bishop Heber College presided over the function.
The conference’s Compilation of Scientific Abstracts was released by the Chief Guest Dr.Sonny Jose in the presence of Dr. P. Ilango, Dr. D. Paul Dhayabaran and the dignitaries.
The Chief Guest, Dr.Sonny Jose quoted various contemporary issues of present scenario. The students are forced into academics and they end up whether to do research or practice. He also emphasized on the fact that this conference would be a foundation for recognizing social workers as professionals, but unfortunately more emphasizing is given on the educational part rather than the professional part. He talked about the importance of field work and how it helped in the development of the skills of a social worker.
