In recent months, a number of parks have come up in different parts of the city. Though they have possessed various facilities and playing equipment for kids and adults to engage them for about two hours, none of them has a full-fledged fountain. To fulfil the expectation of residents, the Tiruchi Corporation has decided to set up musical fountains at five locations in the city.
Central Bus Stand, MGR Statue Roundabout, Mutharayar Statue Roundabout, Chathiram Bus Stand and Checkpost in Thiruvanaikoil are the locations, where musical fountains will come up.
A sum of ₹ 2 crore has been sanctioned for the project under the Smart City initiative.
Of them, the work to establish a fountain at MGR Statue Roundabout has begun, according to N. Ravichandran, Commissioner, Tiruchi Corporation.
He said each fountain would cost about ₹ 50 lakh. Installation of water jets and lights were among the components of fountains. Besides adding beauty to the city, each fountain would have an element of entertainment too. The installation would be completed within three to four months.
