TRICHY: Engineers should develop entrepreneurial skills rather than end up as job seekers, said Bharathidasan university vice-chancellor P Manisankar while delivering the graduation day address of the University College of Engineering (BIT campus) on Sunday. The VC said that the college had equipped the students with the required skills to be successful entrepreneurs. Listing out qualities of a successful entrepreneur, he asked students to develop persistence, efficiency and ability to take risks.
He also advised them to participate in the ‘Make in India’ programme and grab opportunities provided by both the Centre and state government to become an entrepreneur. “The greatest challenge is to inculcate in our people a scientific and technical temper,” he said, stressing on the quality mandate laid down by MHRD for higher educational institutions on developing intellectuals rather than mere degree holders.
Listing out the talent pool the country has produced, he asked students to be responsible and apply their mind for the betterment of people. On Sunday, 1,626 undergraduates and post graduates received their degrees during the event, which also includes 1,008 from the Anna University Trichy campus. Besides this, 196 students of Ariyalur campus, 200 students of Thirukkuvalai campus and 150 of Pattukottai campus received their degrees.
