TRICHY: Trichy City Corporation has opened three public parks built at an outlay of Rs 1.17 crore at Ariyamangalam and K Abishekapuram zones in the city.
The urban local body said that 20 more newlydeveloped and redeveloped public parks, where civil work are under way, will be opened for the public in the coming days. The three parks including the one under the Thennur RoB near Madurai Road, Krishnamoorthy Nagar Park in KK Nagar, and Burma Colony Park in Ariyamangalam were inaugurated by corporation commissioner N Ravichandran on Sunday.
Since the vacant space below the Thennur RoB was used to dump waste and park vehicles, the civic body in November 2018 fenced the space and started the construction work at an estimated cost of Rs 41 lakh. The pillars of the RoB were painted and a walking track was built with stone benches and LED lights.
Similarly, the civic body established a public park at Krishnamoorthy Nagar at an estimated cost of Rs 25.20 lakh as requested by the residents in the area. A 1,280-square feet meeting-hall-cum-stage was built to host meetings and small events. As the open gym established in Burma Colony in Ariyamangalam along the TrichyThanjavur NH received appreciation from local people, a park near the open gym was also established at a cost of Rs 45.50 lakh.
