The state transport minister escaped unhurt in a road accident

KARUR: The state transport minister M R Vijayabaskar and his supporters escaped unhurt in a road accident that happened on Coimbatore-Karur road, when a truck brushed against his car on Tuesday. The incident took place while the minister was returning to Karur from Chennai via Coimbatore airport. Following the incident, K Paramathi police conducted an enquiry and it came to light that the lorry driver, who has been identified as Sivakumar of Thanjavur, was in an inebriated condition while he was driving.

According to police, Vijayabaskar was heading towards Karur to participate in the birthday celebrations of AIADMK’s late leader J Jayalalithaa scheduled to be held on Tuesday – February 26, at Renganathanpettai in Karur district, from Coimbatore. Earlier he had arrived at the Coimbatore airport from Chennai.

The minister’s convoy was approaching K Paramathi and meanwhile a truck from Thanjavur, which was going to load blue metals from a quarry located at Thennilai, brushed against the right side of minister’s car. Small blinkers fixed on the side of the car were damaged during the incident. However, the occupants including the minister escaped unhurt. Following the incident, the minister took another car to reach the venue where the function was being held. On information, K Paramathi police rushed to the spot and conducted an enquiry. Police registered a case against the driver and further enquiries are on, police sources said.
