10% quota for EWS being introduced this year
The online entrance examination for MBBS admission to the Jawaharalal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education Research (Jipmer) will be held on June 2 (Sunday).
This year, Jipmer expects more than two lakh online applications for the MBBS entrance examination for 200 seats, including 50 on its Karaikal campus. The number of students registered online in 2018 was 1,97,745. The selection of candidates for Jipmer Karaikal campus will be done. Besides, Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category has been introduced as per the directions of the Centre this year onwards.
According to the schedule released by Jipmer, the online entrance exam will be conducted in two shifts across India (120 cities) on June 2 — 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
The medium of examination will be English only. Online registration for the exam, which opened on Wednesday, will close at 5 p.m. on April 12. Candidates can download hall ticket from Jipmer website from May 20 (10 a.m.) to June 2 (8 a.m.). According to Jipmer, 5% seats is reserved horizontally to PwD (Persons with Disability) candidates while 13 seats reserved for EWS in general and another four for local candidates.
