Trichy: For the girls of Government High School at Unaiyur, Manapparai, like any others, women’s day is an occasion of receiving special honours and treatment. And though it was no different this time too, their bundle of joy came with a royal recognition a ceremonial coronation. As the students were all called on stage and crowned princesses of Utkalam, former name of Odisha, by their dear teachers, it was a pleasant surprise for girls like Indubala of class VI, who were unaware of this age-old tradition. On Friday, they were the princess of ancient Indian countries.
What was more pleasing for them was that, the teachers have read out aloud their interests, hobies, habits and skills in front of their parents, all that before being crowned on stage. This was an occasion to motivate female students and make them feel special about being born a girl, the organiser said. “We had gathered all the details by asking students to write about their habits and skills of their fellow mates.
We did this a month prior to the event,” headmaster S Sarkunan said, explaing how they worked out the programme.
