Joseph Eye Hospital,Trichy has received full Accreditation by NABH

Joseph Eye Hospital. Trichy has received full Accreditation by National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH), which is a constituent board of Quality Council of India. This accreditation is valid for 3 years period from April 2019. Earlier, the hospital was pre- accredited by the NABH.

JEH being the pioneer is bringing many firsts to Trichy region, now becomes the first Eye Hospital to receive the NABH’s Eye care Accreditation is Rest of Chennai and one among the three eye hospitals in Tamilnadu to receive this prestigious status. The process of accreditation follows a rigorous process stretching over six months during which the hospital needed to comply 305 measurable elements, which required coordinated and dedicated team efforts. JEH has spent nearly 2 crore rupees, in modernizing the Operation Theater Complex having 6 Theaters with Laminar Airflow and HEPA filters in par with international standards, establish firefighting systems, training staff and so on. Periodic mock drills are conducted to keep the staff abreast with newer techniques in managing medical emergencies such as heart attracts, response the fore, child safety, etc. HEH also adopts best practices such as “International Patient Safety Goals.”

Joseph Eye Hospital has ensured that irrespective of the paying ability, the standard of care received by all patients is the same. For example, both the paying the non-paying patient is operated under the same high- end operation theater, under the same protocols in the hands of the same surgeon.

Access to the hospital, various factors such as assessment and continuity of care, care of patients, management of medication, patient rights and education and hospital infection control, continuous quality improvement, facility management and safety were considered during the assessment.

As necessitated by the NABH, in the larger interest, of the public, the hospital concentrates on preventing eye health problems such as educating public  on “Cracker safety” during Diwali season, propagating Do’s and Don’ts during Conjunctivitis outbreaks(Madras eye), Importance of handwashing to prevent contracting infections, awareness toward eye donation, and so on.

The largest beneficiary of this quality initiative is the patient as the clinical and service quality is improved continuously, the procedures and hospital environments is made safe to the patients, open and transparent communication regarding the illness, treatment options and cost implications, JEH has successfully maintained “Zero Infection Rate” for the past four years, JEH takes patients complaints and suggestions, address them, and communicate the results back to the patients.

Now, with the aim of spreading this quality culture, having experts in-house,     JEH provides consultancy services for implementing NABH standards in the NGO hospital network with a non-profit intent.
