The Movement Against Destruction outfit will form a human chain on June 12 against the ongoing and proposed projects that will damage the environment including hydrocarbon and neutrino. These projects pose a threat to humanity, KK R Lenin, founder and president of the movement, said.
In order to take the burning issue to the general public, the association has decided to hold a massive human chain that would begin at Marakkanam in Viluppuram district and extend up to Ramanathapuram district connecting areas such as Puducherry, Karaikal, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Trichy and Pudukottai, he said.
“People from all walks of life including the general public, farmers, political party cadres, social activists, government employees including teachers and school and college students will participate in the massive human chain. We expect that all the people along the stretch cutting across party lines, caste or creed will join hands with us,” Lenin added. “Almost all political parties in our State have been opposing the hydrocarbon exploration projects including the PMK.
That party had staged various protests against the government. However, during election time, almost all the parties conveniently forget the issue and evade on including the issue on their election manifesto. The manifesto released by the PMK is an apt example. There was no word in the manifesto on hydrocarbon projects,” political analyst K Ayyanathan said.
