Thanjavur: A team of officials from the flying squad recovered 133 silver coins each weighing two grams with symbols of lotus and Goddess Laxmi on each side near Peravurani in Thanjavur district.
According to sources, a team headed by taluk supply officer Wilson were engaged in vehicle check at Karanguda on East Coast Road near Peravurani when it intercepted a mini truck coming along the road.
When they inspected the van, officials found that a person, identified as Rooban, was in possession of the silver coins. As the person who was carrying the coins did not have the required documents, the flying squad seized them and handed them over to the deputy returning officer Kamalakannan who subsequently sent them to the government treasury.
The van is owned by a private cigar company located at Alankulam in Tirunelveli.
