Trichy: Congress candidate from Sivaganga Karti Chidambaram said that he was offered party ticket in recognition of his hard work, and it is not appropriate to say that he got ticket because of his father and former finance minister P Chidambaram.
Addressing a meeting in the DMK office at Pudukottai to discuss the poll strategies on Tuesday, Karti said that false cases were being filed against his father for criticising Centre’s policies.
Karti said that he is proud to be Chidambaram’s son and neither he nor his father has committed any irregularities. But his father is booked under false cases for criticising the government at the Centre. He has worked in 10 elections for the party and was offered ticket based on his work.
DMK and Congress have registered big victories whenever they have come together in elections. This time too, the alliance will sweep polls and he will win from Sivaganga, Karti said. Asked about his opponent H Raja of BJP in Sivaganga, Karti said he doesn’t know anything about him.
He said that agriculture loans would be waived and Rs 6,000 would be given to the families of the economically weaker section evenry month if the Congress comes to power.
