A college student hurled a country-made bomb at the house of a 35-year-old woman allegedly over ignoring him for the last few days. A portion of the house and a two-wheeler were damaged during the incident. Based on information provided by her neighbours, police took the student into custody, however let him go without filing any case following intervention from the woman. According to the police, the student has been identified as T Akash, of Kaduvetti Street in Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district, allegedly in a relationship with Mariammal.
After getting calls from the residents of Swaminathan Nagar during the wee hours on Tuesday, Nachiarkoil police reached the spot where they found clothes and a two-wheeler burning. During the investigation headed by inspector Rekarani, they came to know that Akash had hurdle the country-made bomb at the house.
Akash was in a relationship with Mariammal, but his parents had warned her to cut ties with their son, police said. Akash was taken to the police station for further inquiry while a bomb detection team was pressed into action. They collected some parts of the country-made a bomb for investigation.
