Trichy: The officials from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) along with the idol wing CID police have commenced the process of analyzing the antique value of idols kept at the icon centre in Tiruvarur on Monday.
Out of the 4,359 idols, 3,500 have already been analyzed. All the idols, brought from various districts such as Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Cuddalore, have been kept at the icon centre at Thiyagarajar Swami Temple in Tiruvarur.
The team of officials inspected the idols using spectrometer. They verified the height and weight of the idols by comparing documents collected from various places.
Earlier, the idol wing officials had raised apprehensions that the idols may have been replaced. Former inspectorgeneral of the idol wing CID police and special officer Pon Manickavel has ordered to analyze the antique quality of the idols in all the major temples in the state.
