TIRUVARUR: At a time when rival camps are at each other’s throat during election campaign, Tiruvarur was witness to a rare bonhomie between two leaders of the opposite camps on Monday night.
In fact, Nagapattinam parliament segment’s CPI candidate M Selvarasu even attended his rival Naam Tamilar Katchi leader Seeman’s meeting for sometime. Selvarasu was returning home after finishing the day’s campaign in and around Thalaignayiru area in Nagapattinam around 9.40 pm when he ran into Seeman’s meeting at Panagal Salai in Tiruvarur. The latter was campaigning for P Malathi, who is Selvarasu’s rival in Nagapattinam Lok Sabha constituency, as well as for R Vinodhini, who is contesting the Tiruvarur assembly byelection. In his address, Seeman lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on various issues.
With Selvarasu’s car getting stuck in the traffic snarl at the meeting spot, the CPI leader got down and listened to Seeman’s speech standing on the roadside. On noticing him, NTK cadre received and led him to the front row and Seeman was told about the CPI candidate’s presence. On completing his speech, Seeman announced the arrival of the CPI candidate and invited him to the dais. Without any hesitation, Selvarasu climbed on to the dais and appreciated Seeman’s speech. They embraced each other and Seeman wished Selvarasu victory in the elections and the latter too returned the gesture.
“Some people have raised doubts about my gesture but my car was stuck in the congestion near the venue of Seeman’s meeting. So I decided to get down and listen to him, that was all. Indeed, his speech against Prime Minister Narendra Modi was impressive”, Selvarasu told.
