TRICHY: The first day of postal voting of police personnel concluded with 1,481 voters attached to Trichy city police casting their postal votes on Wednesday. The polling booth setup at the Kalaiarangam marriage hall in the city saw a steady movement of police personnel, who casted their votes from 10 am to 5 pm. They were allowed to the booth after the verification of their voters’ identity card.
In Trichy city police, a total of 1,760 police personnel of all cadres had opted for postal votes and got the ballot papers of their respective parliamentary constituencies from the returning officers concerned. Out of the total voters, 1,481 voters turned up for voting. The votes will be sorted and sent to the returning officers of the respective parliamentary constituencies. The police sources said that the absence of voters could have been the result of an emergency or an unavoidable official duty.
The process of postal votes commenced few weeks back in order to facilitate the police personnel on duty out of their parliamentary constituency under which their residences fall. For the police personnel attached to the Trichy rural police, Thursday was fixed for casting their postal votes.
