THANJAVUR : The forthcoming elections presented a good opportunity for the voters to usher in a change and people should act without remaining content with just airing their disenchantment, said Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan here on Friday.

He was campaigning for Sampath Ramadoss, MNM candidate for the Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency, and P. Duraisamy of Valarum Thamizhagam Katchi contesting on MNM symbol for the byelection to the Thanjavur Assembly constituency.

“You have grievances; but it is common to Tamil Nadu. We have to remove those who do not even know how to manage solid waste. We have come to regret how we allowed people, who do not know that sewage cannot mix with drinking water, to rule us?,” he said urging the people to think of the interests of Tamil Nadu and exercise their vote judiciously.

“We have to remove those who loot the exchequer, but it is not enough if you just talk (about it). You must act,” he said. He also called upon the people to beware of people who offered them a “small gift box,” only to take away a bigger booty.

Stating that the options before the electorate were limited, he said that the MNM offered a good option. ‘Sow the seeds of change. We will work for you,” he said.

Citing the vexed Cauvery issue, Mr.Haasan said that the income of farmers of the delta could be increased if they took up “multi-dimensional” farming.

Besieging people not to be indifferent to injustice, he said people, including youth and disenchanted senior citizens, should move towards change. “We are here with the hope that good will happen and you can make it happen,” he told the electorate.
