TRICHY: With barely a week left for election day, poll officials have started work on fixing the symbols on electronic voting machines (EVMs) in six constituencies in the central region on Thursday.
Among the six constituencies in the region, Karur parliamentary constituency comprising assembly segments from Karur, Trichy, Pudukottai and Dindigul districts has 42 candidates. Each booth in the constituency will be provided with three EVMs.
NOTA will be placed as the final one in the EVM. Recommended By Colombia Mayiladuthurai parliamentary constituency has 27 contestants. In Trichy parliamentary constituency, 24 candidates are in the fray, including S Thirunavukkarasar of Congress, Dr V Elangovan of DMDK and Sarubala Thondaiman in AMMK. Each election booths in Trichy constituencies will have two EVMs.
Perambalur constituency will have two EVMs as the number of candidates is 19. Perambalur will have IJK candidate T R Paarivendhar fighting on DMK symbol and AIADMK candidate N R Sivapathy as top contestants. Nagappattinam and Thanjavur constituencies have 15 and 12 candidates in the fray respectively.
The symbol will be based on the order of recognized national parties, recognized state parties, registered state parties and independents besides the alphabetical order of the names of the candidates in each category. This time, the EVMs will have an additional feature that the photos of the candidates will be next to the symbol.
