TRICHY: Three students who were rescued as child labourers scored more than 60 % marks in plus two Tamil Nadu state board exams. J Saranya Devi of Kattu Kothamangalam was a housemaid when she was rescued by the staff of the Child Labour Elimination and Effective Rehabilitation Society (CHEERS), a government project in 2011-2012.

She secured 386 marks out of 600 in accountancy stream. She was a student of Infant Jesus Higher Secondary School in Vinayagapuram. R Srikanth of Sembattu in Trichy secured second spot with 379 marks in computer science stream. He got a fresh lease of life after he was rescued as a child labourer from a bicycle shop in 2011-12. The case of S Sarathi of Araganoor was same. He was saved from a cattle farm in 2008 -2009 following which he got education and now passed Class XII with 369 marks. Project direct of CHEERS S Pearline told that a total of 14 child labourers rescued by the team appeared for Class XII exam and passed this year.
