TRICHY: Parents seeking admissions for their children in private schools at the entry level under the Right to Education (RTE) Act started submitting their online application from Monday. Total 3,673 seats are available for admission at the entry level under RTE Act across 292 self-financing schools across the district.
RTE Act offers an avenue to parents, who want to see their children in popular private schools in their neighbourhood but cannot afford the fees. Parents, who manage to get a seat for their children under RTE Act need not pay tuition fees as the state and central government reimburse the fees to the respective schools. Every candidate can apply in five schools that are in the one km vicinity from their residence. Four-member teams in every school will shortlist applications received for admission by the end of May. Parents belonging to SC/ST or OBC need not attach their income certificates with the applications, a copy of the community certificate will be sufficient. However, those belonging to other castes have to file the online application with income not exceeding Rs 2lakh. Parents will be able to submit the online applications though the website http://rte.tnschools.gov.in/tamil-nadu from Monday and the portal will be open till May 18. Trichy district chief education officer (CEO), M Ramakrishnan said that their office was receiving calls right from morning with queries from parents.
