Deputy Chief Minister and AIADMK coordinator O. Panneerselvam on Tuesday said no one could topple the AIADMK government in the State.
Campaigning in Aravakurichi Assembly constituency in support of party candidate V.V. Senthilnathan, Mr. Panneerselvam said DMK president M.K. Stalin’s desire to dislodge the AIADMK government would never be realised. Even his father Karunanidhi could not do anything to destroy the AIADMK, despite repeated attempts.
Mr. Stalin too would end up losing, Mr. Panneerselvam said, in an apparent response to Mr. Stalin’s claim that the Supreme Court’s order staying the disqualification proceedings against three ruling party MLAs was a setback to the AIADMK government’s efforts to remain in power.
The Deputy Chief Minister maintained that the AIADMK was a party of the masses. It had withstood several attempts to weaken it since its inception. The party would win the byelections to 22 Assembly constituencies with the support of the people, and continue implementing welfare schemes, he said.
Mr. Panneerselvam said the AIADMK government had not stopped even a single welfare scheme introduced by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. In fact, it added value to existing schemes and introduced a few more schemes, following in the footsteps of Jayalalithaa.
Accusing DMK candidate V. Senthil Balaji of being a traitor, Mr. Panneerselvam said he had so far switched loyalties five times in his political career. He would not continue in the DMK for too long.
His “unwise and criminal political manoeuvres” would soon attract the wrath of the DMK and its cadre. The voters would teach him a fitting lesson for frequently changing political parties, Mr. Panneerselvam said.
