Alleging that cash distribution by political parties had started in Aravakurichi, Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan said on Thursday that there were attempts to prevent him from speaking but it would only help spread his words. He was referring to the denial of police permission for his campaign in Sulur assembly segment on Friday. He was speaking at a public meeting in Velayuthampalyam.

“I have said this earlier, that if you stop my speech, my words will spread across places and people gathered here will do it,” said Kamal before leaving the stage. “Police is citing law and order issue but the people gathering for MNM are the ones that clean even the leftover garbage at the venue after meeting. Therefore, we all know from where the law and order issue comes,” he said. Saying that people creating law and order issue were spread across the country, he said, “It is time to ignore them and choose the right candidate who will fulfil your needs” .

“Cash distribution has started in Aravakurichi but we are overflowing with your support. People have not come here expecting money. We can only acknowledge their support by our performance,” he said. He told the gathering that it was an ideal opportunity to bring in change by asking people to reject those who think they can buy them with money. Addressing voters in Thennillai, he said that drinking water was the primary issue and people must wait for 7-8 days for it.

“Some of you may wait for lesser days but don’t feel fortunate for that as drinking water is your right. Both the ruling and the opposition have failed to address these issues because of which people like me have to enter politics. I came with anger and now am happy with your support. Instead of criticising those who are against welfare of people and the country, it is wise to list things that need to be done and our plans for the welfare of people,” he said.
