The Tiruchi Corporation plans to establish public parks, fountains and open gyms at 37 locations in the city. It has earmarked ₹ 9.63 crore from its general fund to carry out the work.
The work has been apportioned to all the four zones of Srirangam, Golden Rock, K. Abishekapuram and Ariyamangalam.
Establishment of children park and gym at Mangamma Nagar extension and development of existing Srinivasalu memorial park in Srirangam were among the proposed plan.
While a sum of ₹ 54.50 lakh has been allotted for the children park at Mangamma Nagar, ₹50 lakh will be spent for developing Srinivasalu memorial park.
An open gym will come up at an estimate of ₹ 22 lakh on approach road to old Cauvery bridge at Mambalasalai in Thiruvanaikoil.
Fountains will be set up at Sanjeevi Nagar, Amma Mandaparam Road, Karthikeyan garden and Akilandeswari nagar at an estimate of ₹ 41.50 lakh.
The Corporation will spend ₹ 1.30 crore for the Ariyamangalam zone.
Fountains will come up at Andal Nagar, Tiruchi-Chennai and Tiruchi-Thanjavur junction, Prabhat roundabout at Palakarai and Cholan Nagar.
Establishment of fountain at a public park on Lawsons Road at an estimate of ₹20.25 lakh is part of eight works chosen in Golden Rock Zone.
Creation of children park at a cost of ₹ 40 lakh at Ashok Nagar park and another park at Rajarajan Nagar are among ₹3.30 crore work planned for K. Abishegapuram zone.
Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran said that the work had been planned after studying demands of residents and available places at various places.
Tenders would be floated in a few days for all the work. It has been planned to complete them within six months.
Besides enabling residents to spend leisure time at the public parks, they would add beauty to the city.
