A notice issued by the corporation to seal an unauthorised building of a private school on Kallangadu bank road near district collectorate created a flutter among the locals here on Friday.

The civic body officials, however, failed to seal the building as the school approached the Local Planning Authority (LPA) seeking building plan approval. The lock and seal notice issued by C Prabhakaran, assistant commissioner of K Abishekapuram zone on June 3, 2019, seeking support from GH police station, had mentioned that a new building of Kamala Niketan school was built without obtaining plan approval on Kallangadu road.

“Even though the building owner was provided enough time, they have not got their plan approved,” the notice said. The threefloor building for which construction work was taken up a few years ago is almost complete now.

While the school management was supposed to apply for the approval of a plan for the new building with LPA through the corporation, the local body said the school management failed to follow the protocol. Meanwhile, the corporation sent notices insisting on the school management to remove their belongings from the new building as they have planned to seal the unapproved structure on Friday morning. However, the management of the private school in the meantime approached the LPA seeking approval of their plan.

“We planned to lock and seal the unapproved building on Friday but LPA officials informed us that the school building’s plan approval is under scrutiny. So, we did not seal the unapproved building,” an official source with Trichy Corporation said. The growing building plan violations, particularly the conversion of parking space into commercial establishments, has been irking the residents.

“Post building approvals should not be given. It is simply a dereliction of duty by the enforcement agencies,” S Pushpavanam, secretary, consumer protection council, Tamil Nadu, told TOI. Residents urged the enforcement agencies to check for violations at the preliminary stage of construction of the unapproved buildings.
