First woman Registrar at MKU

Sudha, Professor and Head of the Department of French, was appointed as Registrar (in-charge) of Madurai Kamaraj University on Sunday. She is the first woman in the history of the university to hold the post.

The decision to appoint her to the post was made by Vice-Chancellor M. Krishnan as former Registrar V. Chinniah’s tenure ended on Sunday.

Ms. Sudha, who has served at the university for 32 years, told : “I wish to do as much good as possible for the university under the guidance of the VC.”

She started teaching at the university in 1987. Earlier, she was teaching French at TVS Lakshmi School here. She studied at Sorbonne University in France for a year in 1991 and went on to complete her Ph. D. there in 1996-1997.

Ms. Sudha has co-authored a Class 10 textbook for the Central Board of Secondary Education and written a textbook for Classes 11 and 12 for the State Council of Educational Research and Training, Tamil Nadu.

The Vice-Chancellor said the process of finalising a permanent Registrar would be completed in two months. “The last date for receipt of filled-in applications is June 21. A selection panel with a Governor’s nominee, State government nominee, an SC/ST nominee and three experts will vet the candidates,” he said.
