The construction wing of Southern Railway has invited an e-tender to establish the provision of interlocking signals at the level crossing gates on newly gauge converted Tiruvarur-Pattukottai section.
The eligible contractors have been given 6-month period for the completion of the works to be executed at an estimation of Rs 2.93 crore, the circular from the Southern railway added.
Trichy railway division which was having some 900 Level Crossings (LCs), including 480 unmanned LCs in the early 90s, is now having 569 LCs as on date of which 30 LCs are situated in Tiruthuraipundi—Agastiyampalli section which is under gauge conversion. Following the increasing accidents at unmanned level crossings, the railway board pursued consistently for the elimination of unmanned LCS and all the unmanned LCs were eliminated by September 2018.
The manned LCs are also on the verge of their way out of the railway system with the provisions such as Road over bridges and subways, officials said.
