Personnel of the Coastal Security Group (CSG) along with fishermen carried out cleanliness activity on Monday at the Muthukuda coastal village in the district as CSG celebrates its silver jubilee.
A team of CSG personnel comprising of Manamelkudi Inspector Annalakshmi, Sub Inspectors Raghupathy, Jawahar and Rajkumar besides other constables went to Muthukada coastal village where they cleaned up the beach front along with officials of the Wildlife Institute of India, prominent representatives of the village and fisherfolk for over an hour.
Saplings provided by the CSG personnel were planted by the fishermen at the village on the occasion. The CSG personnel distributed to the villagers pamphlets containing the activities of the Coastal Security Group that was formed on June 27 1994 and its functions across the State to create awareness among fishermen.
As part of the silver jubilee celebrations, the CSG personnel had organised recently elocution and essay competitions for students at the Government Higher Secondary School at Meemisal coastal village on the topic ‘The role of Coastal Security Group in the protection of marine resources, coastal security and protection of fishermen’.
A good number of students participated in the contest and prizes were given to winners, said CSG sources. The programmes were organised as per the direction of the Additional Director General of Police, Coastal Security Group, K. Vanniaperumal.
