Bharathidasan University (BDU) is planning to set up a multi-disciplinary research park at the university by bringing together National Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Management and Tamil Nadu National Law University.
The facility is meant to encourage research in various disciplines with representation from industries to present problems that can be addressed through application-oriented research. The university is awaiting response from the higher education department after submitting a proposal in this regard.
BDU vice-chancellor P Manisankar said that Trichy has popular technical, management and law institutions at one place. “We have decided to make use of their expertise by establishing a research park cum incubation centre at Bharathidasan university by involving industries from this region.
All these institutions can partner in this venture by contributing in research activities benefiting local industries,” said Manisankar.
“The project is in the pipeline and we are anticipating a positive response from the state government. The project will be application oriented and help in developing industries which will eventually increase employment opportunities,” he said. BDU is also among the seven state-universities to establish an entrepreneurship and innovation career hub at a cost of Rs 15 crore.
66 such hubs will be developed in institutions across the country under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (Rusa) fund. It will function as a separate entity at the university and will be registered under the companies act. This programme will benefit about 2.36 lakh students under BU, including students of 151 affiliated colleges.
