The state express transport corporation (SETC) has introduced eight new omni buses to connect Trichy with Bengaluru and Chennai. Welcoming the effort, locals have sought introducing new buses to other destinations such as Tiruchendur and Ooty.
The state government on Friday inducted 500 buses into service as a part of revamping the SETC. For Trichy region, two AC buses to Bengaluru, two AC buses to Chennai and two AC seater-cum-sleeper buses for Chennai were allotted. “The newly introduced AC sleeper-cum-seater buses for Bengaluru has been getting very good response. So we thought of replacing the old buses on the route with new buses,” an official with SETC said.
Similarly, SETC has also replaced two old Trichy-Chennai Ultra-Deluxe buses with new ones. As the new buses have replaced only ageing buses in the Chennai and Bengaluru routes, locals have sought SETC to consider revamping the connectivity from Trichy to Tiruchendur and Ooty. “We need more AC buses for Bengaluru. Poor rail connectivity is the reason for private omni bus operators thriving here.
More AC sleepers is the need of the hour for Bengaluru and new destinations like Kollam,” Deepak Saravanan, an SETC passenger from Trichy said. Official sources with SETC said that they have plans to introduce the new buses from Trichy to Ernakulam.
