Rs 5 crore allotted to develop the science instrumentation centre in(BDU)

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday announced in the assembly that Rs 5 crore would be allotted to develop the science instrumentation centre in Bharathidasan University (BDU). The sanctioned fund will be utilised to upgrade the university science instrumentation centre (USIC) in BDU. The objective of developing USIC is to improve quality of research with the help of advanced and state-of-the-art equipment.

“We had sought additional funds to expand the upcoming USIC which is presently functioning with 10 equipment in the university,” said vice-chancellor, P Manisankar. A proposal was sent to the higher education department in this regard to construct an additional building to house the USIC, he said.

A common instrumentation centre will house high-end research equipment purchased by the university using various state and central funds.

The facility will not only be used by university staff and research scholars but will also be made available for outsiders for a nominal charge,” said the VC.
