Timely completion of inquiries relating to theft of railway material, detection and proper maintenance of records has earned the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Post at Tiruchi Junction the “Best Kept Post” for 2018-19 in Southern Railway zone.
The award was given to RPF Tiruchi Junction Inspector Sujitkumar Roy by Inspector General-cum-Principal Chief Security Commissioner, RPF, Southern Railway, Birendra Kumar in Chennai on Monday.
The RPF Tiruchi Post was selected as the best over 100 RPF Posts and outposts functioning across the zone based on various criteria that included timely completion of inquiries with respect to railway claim cases, claims cases reported at Railway Tribunal Court and for its efforts in maintaining proper upkeep of its surrounding areas, say RPF sources.
During 2018, the RPF Tiruchi Post that is headed by an officer in the rank of Inspector had booked over 3,000 cases under the Railway Act and realised fine amount ₹11.46 lakh from the accused after prosecuting them. In the current year, it registered over 820 cases under the Act and realised a fine amount of ₹ 3.45 lakh till now.
The sources said the RPF, Tiruchi, arrested 16 persons in 2018 in connection with theft of railway property and produced them before the court after booking cases against them under the Railway Property Unlawful Possession Act.
In the current year, it had booked nine cases till now under the same Act and arrested 17 accused including five receivers of stolen railway property.
