The Thuraiyur police arrested a man and his father for burning a 32- year-old man to death in a dispute over an extramarital affair in Venkadathanur in Thuraiyur on Sunday.
The police arrested Chandrakumar, 44, and his father Muthusamy, 67, of Venkadathunur, for murdering T Prabakaran from the same village on Saturday night. According to the complaint filed by Prabakaran’s father R Thangaraj, he was living with his parents. He was working in an explosives factory in Thuraiyur. Prabakaran, the third son, was having an extramarital affair with a woman living nearby. A few months back, when the affair came to light, Chandrakumar, the husband, and his family reprimanded Prabakaran and the woman.
Some of his friends also beat him up over the issue and also threatened him with dire consequences. Thangaraj said that he sent his son to Chennai and arranged for a job there to keep him away from any more trouble. However, Prabakaran left his job and returned and resumed his affair with the woman. He also joined work with the explosive factory again. He used to stay in a portion of the house outside.
n the complaint, Thangaraj said he woke up on Saturday night and went to check on his son. He found Muthusamy carrying a can of petrol, Chandrakumar with a matchbox and his wife entering the room. As Muthusamy poured the petrol while Chandrakumar set him on fire. As Thangaraj raised an alarm, the trio left. Prabakaran was charred to death on the spot. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case against Chandrakumar, Muthusamy and his wife. The police arrested sonfather duo and were remanded in judicial custody.
