City corporation has tied up with Kalai Kaviri Fine Arts college to provide music classes to school students
Studies have found that learning a musical instrument at school can improve children’s behaviour, memory and intelligence. The Trichy Corporation seems to have taken a note of that and is all set to introduce children to classes.
Corporation Commissioner N Ravichandran tells us, “While private schools swamp too many extra-curricular activities on their children, the students in the Corporation schools lack those opportunities. There are two main reasons- first, schools do not have too many extra-curricular activities and second, Corporation school children are unable to spend money to take these classes privately. Hence, the Trichy Corporation has made a new plan to teach music lessons in Corporation schools.”
He adds, “City corporation has tied up with Kalai Kaviri Fine Arts college to provide music classes including Carnatic and keyboard classes for students from class six to nine for two hours every week. We are planning to provide each school with keyboard for students to practice during classes.” This initiative from the Corporation has been welcomed by students, parents and teachers.
On conditions of anonymity, a head master from Corporation school says, “When compared to other schools, students of Corporation school are hesitant to open up to opportunities. Knowing an extra skill is a value addition and will boost their confidence. We are looking forward to seeing our students take these classes with gusto.” In addition to this, the Corporation has also taken the initiative to teach yoga for enhanced fitness, soft skills development classes for students.
