The body of a 45-year-old man from Pudukottai district who died in Malaysia last year reached home on Saturday.
Nallathambi from Kummakulam village near Aranthangi of Pudukottai district, went to work in Malaysia two years ago. However, he died of ill-health last November. Since then, his body has been lying in Malaysia. The family members could not receive the body as they were asked to pay Rs 10 lakh to receive the body from Malaysia.
Since the body was in Malaysia for over 10 months, the Malaysian government had come forward to send the body which arrived in Trichy airport on Saturday. His wife N Lakshmi however said that her family had made several requests to bring back the body. They had petitioned the collector and approached other agencies to get the body of her husband back. “The cost involved was high therefore no one turned up to help,” she said.
As the Malaysian government does not keep bodies for a long period they sent it back to India.
